If we want our boys to become good men it's important that they have role models who can show them a positive version of masculinity, according to Mitchell Osmond of @dadnationco
Having come from a background where he had no access to men who inspired him to grow it took a fight and a funeral for him to wake up to what he really wanted in life, and find men who could teach him how to be the person he wanted to be.
You can’t lecture a boy into being a good man.
He learns by watching men, not listening to them.
He catches masculinity from:
– how you handle stress,
– how you treat people with less power,
– how you repair after you’ve messed up.
Masculinity is caught, not taught.
So if you want to raise a different kind of man,
you don’t need the perfect speech.
You need a different example
In my latest episode we talk about the power of surrounding ourselves with people who inspire and teach us, and the importance of showing our boys a positive form of mature masculinity so they have something aspirational to aim for.
